Broadway Extravaganza Scores

I cried buckets this weekend for joy. I noticed how many older dogs were on the dance floor, probably because that is where I am with my two older dogs and being older myself. To watch these veterans was wonderful. Dianne Trippett with Isaiah glittered on the dance floor. Carolyn Money and Sunny have danced together a long time. Mary Moore and Petite moved together with beautiful grace. Teri Beeman’s Anna was one of our first DGD competitors and it was fun to see her out there, still working with beautiful precision. I think the high point for me this weekend was watching Barb and Morgan as Morgan side-passed at heel, looking into Barb’s eyes with such adoration that it left no doubt of the friendship between these two partners.

There was one competing Handi-Dandi team. Carrol Haines and Breezee gave a heartwarming performance to “Smile” by Uncle Kraker. It was such a good song for Breezee, who smiled all the way through it and made the audience smile too.

The beginners in HTM made it look easy. There stooped the happy gardener planting flowers while the pup followed behind and pulled them up. What a cute routine–thank you, Linda Keast and Lili. How does Barb Pfohl get a Golden to look so sad? Regan is a true actor. Nancy Ballerstedt and J.J. moved like waltzing partners. Diane Baker’s Oliver was still a bit overcome by the big ring, but he hung in with his awesome dance partner, and together, they earned the special award for fancy footwork.

MF Beginners and MF Novice were large groups with several beginners moving up the next day. Deana and Ritz earned their MF Novice title with their delightful routine to “I Feel Pretty” by Hayley Westenra. Brenda Cutting and Izzie were a treat to watch as they jumped rope together. It was wonderful to see all the rescue dogs coming to freestyle. Teri Beeman brought a new rescue, Lexie,  and they danced beautifully together. I have a feeling we will be seeing more of Lexie. Diana Roberts’  Murungu is another rescue; he wanted to play, but Diana persuaded him to dance and dance he did–good come-back, Diana. Tania Crawford’s Popeye hopped over the ring gates,  but Tania brought him back and finished their dance. Way to go, Tania!

What about the more seasoned dogs? Wow! A lot of really inspiring action.  A well earned HTM Championship and the special award for the most soothing routine was the beautiful dance of Deana and Jester, which was absolutely breathtaking. Kathy Weaver and Troy earned the High Trophies for Technical Merit and Artistic Impression for their MF Advanced routine. Brenda and Scottie got their HTM Championship with their routine to “For Unto You” by Carmen.

We had one MF-PDP routine by Michele Pouliot and Listo, who continued to entertain us with their delightful routine to the Indiana Jones theme. On Saturday, Listo decided to change the routine a bit by grabbing the snake and dropping it on Michele, who carried on as if that was exactly what was supposed to happen, giving a new and funny twist to this fun dance.

We thank our judges Sandy Beeler and Daniel Ratte,who came from afar to judge and give comments to a large group of entries each day. You were wonderful we appreciate all you do.

Finally kudos and thank-yous to the show committee:  Cindy Marht, Julie Flanery, Priscilla Hoobler, Lisa Stirnemann and Janet Morlan. You keep getting better. The e-mails about the”Dogs” Broadway Extravaganza kept saying it: you were awesome. You not only put it all together, but you were there running video, handling money, making sure lunch came, and much more. Thank you for a fun and wonderful event
